Solo-first, by design
Most group tours treat a solo traveller as a problem to solve: a single supplement here, a stranger for a roommate there. This trip is priced solo from the first dollar. Eight guests at most, four to a Land Cruiser so nobody's stuck in a middle seat, and a proper lodge room to yourself every night. Come alone, with your partner or with a friend, your own space is the default, not an upgrade.
The route runs Tanzania's Northern Circuit the right way round: Tarangire's elephants, the Ngorongoro Crater at dawn, then deep into the Serengeti. From August to October it pushes north to the Mara River for the Great Migration crossings. Want the beach too? Add four nights on Zanzibar and we fly you there straight from the Serengeti, so the whole group carries on together to the sand.
No single supplement games
The price on the page is the solo price. Nobody pays extra for coming alone, and nobody shares with a stranger.
Your own key, every night
Your own room every night on safari, and your own room again if you add Zanzibar. Close the door when you've had enough of everyone.
Company at dinner, space all day
Eight guests your own age, four to a vehicle, one long table in the evening. Travel together without living in each other's pockets.
The route
Ten days west from Arusha: the Rift Valley, the Ngorongoro Crater, and deep into the Serengeti. Zanzibar, if you add the beach, is a short flight east from the final stop.

Day by day
Below is the June and July journey, west across the Northern Circuit: three unhurried nights in the Manyara country, two on the Ngorongoro highlands for the crater, then deep into the central Serengeti. August to October push north to the Mara River for the migration crossings instead, and there's a note in the flow where the two part ways. Your own room every night, whichever month you pick.
Day 1Overnight · Gran Meliá Arusha
Met at Kilimanjaro and driven the short way to a five-star bed with Mount Meru out the window. Meet the group over a quiet first dinner before the early start.
★ Stay: Gran Meliá Arusha →
Day 2Overnight · Africa Safari, Manyara
A full game drive through Tarangire, the biggest dry-season elephant herds in the north among ancient baobabs, then down into the Rift Valley to your camp for the next three nights.
★ Stay: Africa Safari, Manyara (or similar) →
Day 3Overnight · Africa Safari, Manyara
A day in Lake Manyara, famous for its tree-climbing lions and flamingo shallows, then an unhurried afternoon and sundowners over the valley from the terrace.
Day 4Overnight · Africa Safari, Manyara
The gift of a third night: no early start. Wander the Mto wa Mbu market with a local guide, or simply do nothing at all by the pool with the escarpment in front of you.
Day 5Overnight · Africa Safari, Karatu
Climb the escarpment into the green coffee country of Karatu, on the crater's doorstep. An easy afternoon and an early night before the dawn descent.
★ Stay: Africa Safari, Karatu (or similar) →
Day 6Overnight · Africa Safari, Karatu
Down 600m into the crater at sunrise, among the densest wildlife on earth by breakfast, black rhino included. The whole day on the floor, no midday cut-off, then back up to the highlands.
Same first six days. But from here the migration departures head north into the Serengeti instead of central: three nights at Lobo, in the thick of the herds, with a day trip out to the Mara River where the wildebeest cross. It is a longer drive up there, which is exactly why most operators stop short. The crossings happen up north, so that is where we put you. June and July stay central, in the Seronera valley's year-round big-cat country.
Day 7Overnight · Seronera Wildlife Lodge (Lobo, Aug–Oct)
The big drive of the trip, and a good one. Out through Loduare, across the highlands and down onto the plains, with the game viewing starting the moment you clear Naabi gate. June and July run west to Seronera in the heart of the Serengeti, in by mid afternoon. From August you carry on north to Lobo and the crossing country, a longer day again with lunch on the plains, in by late afternoon.
★ Stay: Seronera or Lobo Wildlife Lodge →
Day 8Overnight · Seronera Wildlife Lodge (Lobo, Aug–Oct)
After yesterday's drive up, a gentler day on the country right around the lodge. This is the best big-cat ground on the continent and you barely have to leave it: lions draped over the kopjes, cheetah out on the move, elephant coming down to drink. Out at your own pace, back when you've had enough.
Day 9Overnight · Seronera Wildlife Lodge (Lobo, Aug–Oct)
From August this is your run north to the Mara River, where the herds pile up on the bank and cross. It is around three hours each way, so it is a long day and a big one, and your guide picks the morning, today or yesterday, on where the herds actually are. June and July stay put for one more unhurried drive while the Serengeti is at its softest, then an easy afternoon back at the lodge.
Day 10Departure day
A light aircraft lifts you off the plains. Connect home from Kilimanjaro, or if you've added the beach, fly straight on to Zanzibar with the group for four nights on the sand.
River crossings are wild events, not scheduled ones. August brings the herds in strength, September is statistically the most reliable month, and October adds the chance of southbound returns. We put you in the right place at the right time; the wildebeest do the rest.
Where you stay
Your nine nights on safari, your own room in every one. On a fixed departure we hold whichever of our boutique camps has space on your dates, so you'll stay in one of these in each region, always the same class, always your own room. Want to go grander in the Serengeti? There's a Serena upgrade you can add when you reserve.
